Been wanting to do this for a while, but up until recently, I haven't been able to come up with a design plan that works within the given limitations (and there are a lot of limitations). Early on I had an idea for a dark blue ribbon. Here's a mockup from my brainstorming process at the time: i.imgur.com/7u3ZO5Q.png
. I really liked this idea, and I still kinda wish I could've gone that route, but unfortunately I would've had to turn Plexcellent into a half-dark style for that to work. The result shown above, on the other hand, is not a mockup but a real screenshot, and was done without making any changes to the existing Visual Style. I'm pretty pleased with the result so far. Let me know what you think in the comments ^-^
For anyone wondering, this doesn't mean I'm abandoning the old Command Bar design seen in previous screenshots. There's no way in hell I'd do that, this is just an option for those who, like myself, prefer the Ribbon's functionality to that of the Command Bar, but can't stand its appearance...because apparently nobody's made a custom Ribbon skin in the 3 years since the tutorial was published on the WSB forum, aside from its own author? Huh...apparently I have a habit of making use of really old, long-forgotten tricks and tools that never really caught on, between this and my modified fixed WinaeroGlass utility (more on that later :7 )...
And to any Visual Style authors reading this, I am working on an updated tutorial, which will be easier to follow, and will include a more complete documentation of all the bitmaps you'll need to replace and what they're for. Maybe not 100%, but definitely all the most important bits. Oh and it'll be available outside the tiny subcommunity of the WSB forum, so anyone and everyone can access it :U
